The book and vest that started it all

Jan Hibbard was born and raised in Wakefield, Massachusetts. Her love of animals and her interest in crafts developed as a child. Her journey with leather began in 1977 as she was working on her teaching degree in Boston. Barnes & Noble opened in downtown Boston and she found a book on leatherwork. It mentioned two leather companies located in Boston. She went there the next day and purchased her first hide of leather and a few tools. She made a leather vest which she still wears today. Her LOVE of leather was born and it continues to grow.

Her parents purchased a summer home on Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, NH when she was six and her love of loons developed. Loons became the inspiration for many of her early carvings. Her parents shared the same love so she created products for them. As her skills improved, New Hampshire's beautiful scenery—the majestic mountains, rushing rivers, breathtaking waterfalls, fall foliage, sunsets, lakes, and amazing wildlife became the inspirations for her carvings. She also learned to create intricate detailed patterns on leather and apply color that is unique to her creations. Many belts, guitar straps and covers are adorned with these designs.

The journey through life is unique for each of us. The leather products created by Jan are also unique, and should help define your identity and style. She hopes her products will inspire you and will open the pathways of your imagination on your adventures through life.
